What is Sew Altered Style?
Sew Altered Style is a community for people passionate about making well-fitting clothes AND having a cohesive, stylish wardrobe. Whether you are a homeschooling stay-at-home mom, or a fashion editor, there’s no reason your clothes can’t be comfortable and stylish.
How did it begin?
Sew Altered Style was born after months of maybes and a 5-minute telephone call! Mac and Katie “met” online in the Capsule Wardrobe Sew Along Facebook group, and met in real life in Kansas City when Mac visited for work in August 2017. Over lunch, they started discussing how they could collaborate on a project that incorporated their mutual love of sewing and style. Fast forward 4 months to December 2017, when they finally put aside Facebook Messenger and picked up the phone. Five minutes into the call, the concept for Sew Altered Style was born! Ten minutes after that, it had a name and a blog address, and the concept was on its way to reality. It’s been a whirlwind of a ride, but we’ve loved every minute of it!
What can I expect to see?
Advice and resources on all stages of a project, from pattern and fabric choice to styling and capsuling. We will choose a category of clothing and go for a deep dive, spending two months exploring patterns, fabrics, alterations and fitting, construction and styling. If you’ve ever wanted to make jeans but didn’t quite know where to start, this is the place for you!
Why should I follow along here instead of all the other blogs I follow?
There are a lot of bloggers out there who do great things, and we follow a lot of them! You can find blogs with great pattern reviews (in fact, you can find a lot at Katie’s and Mac’s personal blogs!), blogs with fitting advice, blogs that walk you through construction, and pretty style blogs galore. But there aren’t many that have all of that in one place. That’s our goal — to be a one-stop-shop for all your sewing and style needs; our hope is to build a resource that will live on beyond the project of the day or month!
How else can I stay involved?
After you’ve soaked up all that we have to offer here, hop on over to the Sew Altered Style Society Facebook group. There you can join the conversation and show us all your creations!
