We are really loving all the sewing patterns with pretty pockets these days! If 2017 was the “year of the sleeve,” then we can affectionately coin 2018 the “year of the pocket!” We know how much you love a good round up (see our previous roundups here , here, here, and here), and thought we would highlight five fantastic sewing patterns with pretty pockets this time around. We think you should give at least one (or many) a try! Shall we dive in?
1. Papercut Palisade Pants: crossover pockets
The MINUTE Papercut Patterns released their latest collection – I became smitten with the Palisade Pants, and dropped everything I was making to sew a pair! They are pretty much everything I could want in a pant that can be worn dressed up or down. The pocket detail is STUNNING in its simplicity and is so easy to sew!
I am so happy with how mine came out – and will do a pattern review most likely after the holidays! I used a stretch woven and found I needed to make a couple adjustments.
From the Papercut Site:
A staple pant to have in your wardrobe for every season. The center front and back seams on the leg replace the side seam for a streamline look. Detail cross-over pockets span the side panel. Elasticated waistband with a flat piece at front and a faux fly. Comfort is key with these pants. Two length options, pants or shorts.

2. Sew Liberated Arenite Pants: scoop pockets
I had the pleasure of testing the Arenites earlier this year (see write up here). These pants have the COOLEST wide scoop pocket – perfect for carrying all your precious cargo (aka yarn, kids small toys, etc.).
I made my pair with the box pleat to slim the pocket a bit – and love that Meg included that as an option!
More details from the site below:
The Arenite Pants are the luxuriously deep-pocketed, slouchy pants of your dreams. Incredibly versatile and amazingly cozy, you can wear these high-waisted pants for date night, in the office, or as pajamas. The pattern includes three leg finishing options – a knit cuff, an elasticated woven cuff, or a dressier hem. Learn to sew French seams, flat-felled seams and a comfortable, non-twist elastic waistband for a made-to-last, beautifully crafted wardrobe staple. This pattern is suitable for advanced beginners. It is the perfect project for those new to sewing pants, as the fit is very forgiving.

3. Hey June Bryce Cargo Pants: traditional cargo pockets
The Bryce Cargo Pants made it into my make nine EASILY this year!
I am obsessed with the three types of pockets on the pants: Cargo, Flap Pockets, and Front Slash Pokets – oh my!
While it looks like I won’t actually finish them this year like I originally intended, I did have the pleasure of trying on the sample when I visited Denver earlier this year and met Adrianna (the designer) in person!
From the site:
The Bryce Cargo Pants are mid-rise, slim fit, ankle length pants. They feature traditional pleated cargo pockets above the knee with pocket flaps, deep slash hip pockets with seam-outlined bags, back flap pockets, and darts at the knee for extra shaping and detailing. A functional zip fly with a button or snap closure and belt loops round out the traditional cargo styling.

4. Deer & Doe Opium Coat: origami pockets
Neither Katie or I have had the pleasure of sewing the Deer & Doe Opium Coat, but we both have all the heart eyes for this stunning piece of outerwear.
From the raglan sleeves to the swing of the hem – it really is a BEAUTIFUL coat. And who could miss those pockets!!
Deer and Doe really knocked this one out of the park and we are definitely here for it.
More details from their site below:
Swing coat with raglan sleeves and origami welt pockets, entirely lined. Version A is closed with snaps, version B includes a belt.
